British Citizenship

The qualifying period for naturalisation is 5 years; however the applicant must have enjoyed ILR status for at least 12 months prior to submitting an application for naturalisation. If, for example, an applicant acquires ILR to remain in the Isle of Man after 5 years, he would have to wait a further 12 months before making the application for naturalisation.

Once an application is successful (the process takes approximately 6 months) individuals attend a British Citizenship ceremony and receive a certificate of naturalisation or registration. This certificate would then be required if an application was made for a British passport.
